- Umrao Jaan is a poignant discovery of love, settling and longing and is considered one of the most visible visual and emotional hypnotic works of Indian cinema.
- Rekha’s depiction of Tawaif-Kavayitri is considered one of the greatest performances in film history, which gave her the National Film Award for Best Actress.
- The ghazals of the film, including “Dil Cheese Kya Hai”, “these eyes fun” and “Justu which were”, remain dear from generations to generations.
- On the other hand, the restoration of Umrao Jaan was a laborious process that took about a year to complete.
- MD NFDC, Mr. Prakash Magdum said, “To restore Umrao Jaan, NFDC-NFAI has been working for almost a year in collaboration with the film’s director Muzaffar Ali.

- He had a significant contribution in detection of the original negative of the film, which should have been the best source of restoration. “Due to the state of negative, the film was restored using a 35mm release print protected in NFAI.
- Meanwhile, Rekha also said about Umrao Jaan’s re -release, “Umrao Jaan is not just a film in which I have acted – she lives within me, breathes through me, still.
- At that time, none of us could imagine the timelessness of the film, the way it would gradually engage itself in the soul of Indian cinema. “Muzaffar Ali further said,” Umrao Jaan was not just a film – it was a lost culture, a forgotten tahzeeb’s journey.
- Through his pain, poetry and grace, we tried to revive the grandeur of an era where love and longing used to speak in verse. “Umrao Jaan’s re -released film is an important event for enthusiastic and Rekha’s fans.
