The Bombay High Court has temporarily banned the film ‘Bhool Luke Maa Maa’ starring Rajkummar Rao on the OTT or any other platform for eight weeks after its release in PVR Einox theaters.
The ‘Multiplex Chen’ challenged the decision of the makers to release it on OTT instead of theaters as national security concerns increased amidst the Indo-Pakistan military conflict.
PVR Iinox accused producer Madock Films of violating contracts. The film was scheduled to release in theaters across the country on May 9 under the agreement between the two on May 6.
Along with this, it was also said in this agreement that it would not be released on OTT or any other platform for eight weeks thereafter. PVR Iinox counsel Dinayar Madon argued that the manufacturers ended the agreement just a day before the release and announced the release of OTT on 16 May.
Madock’s lawyer Venkatesh Dhond said that an eight -week ‘adjournment’ provision would be applicable only when the film is released in theaters. A bench of Justice Arif Doctor said on Friday that PVR Einox has fulfilled its obligations by promoting the film, by reserving screen and giving tickets to its consumers, but sudden cancellation will ‘affect its reputation and credit’.
In an interim order, the High Court stopped Madock Films from release of the film on any platform until eight weeks after its release in PVR theaters. The High Court has fixed the next hearing of the case on 16 June and asked Madock to file its reply.
