The uproar over the song ‘Sarke Chunar’ from the upcoming film ‘KD – The Devil’ is not stopping. While on one hand the makers have removed the Hindi version of the song after allegations of obscenity, on the other hand, now the film’s director Prem’s wife and former actress Rakshita has raised sharp questions on this “selective outrage”. In a series of Instagram stories, she hit back at the questions being raised on her song by mentioning several famous songs like ‘Peelings’, ‘Dreamum Wakeupum’ and ‘Choli ke Peeche’.

The song ‘Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke’ (‘Sarse Ninna Seraga Sarse’ in Kannada) is in trouble for its use of obscene lyrics and choreography. The Hindi version of this song has been removed after huge protests. This Kannada film is directed by Prem and Nora Fatehi and Sanjay Dutt are seen in this song.
Rakshita accepted the excessive attention this song was getting and while giving her stand, wrote, “It doesn’t matter whether I am in favor of this song or against it. When ‘Peelings’, ‘Dreamum Wakeupum’, ‘Choli ke Peeche’ or hundreds of such songs were released, then everything seemed fine.”

He also mentioned those films whose story was based on sexual intercourse, but those films did not come into the limelight as much as this song of his has. Questioning this selective anger, she said, “When the entire film is talking about sexual intercourse, in which the actors keep talking about it throughout the film, then everything seems fine; but as soon as one song comes, such a big uproar is created. I am still not justifying it, I am just asking so that I can understand this.”
Rakshita also said that the entire work of a writer should not be questioned on the basis of one song. He acknowledged that people have every right to question the author, but also strongly criticized those who use abusive or vulgar language.
In another post, he wrote, “Every day new songs are made – some bad, some good, some provocative, some special numbers. In today’s time, people see more gore and sexual content in films, and all this is shown quite openly. Prem is also a Kannada speaking (Kannadiga) like you people. You all are encouraged to question him, his work, to tell him what is right and what is not. Wrong, absolutely right; but to say about his past actions that he is just doing ‘gimmicks’ is absolutely wrong.”
Rakshita defended her husband and said that nowadays it is very difficult to sell a film to an OTT platform. “Let me tell you one thing today – selling a film to an OTT or channel is the biggest challenge for any Kannada director… He finds it very difficult to reach any heights or even come close to other cinema markets. Even getting our own people to the theaters is a very difficult task.” He said that this is the story of every film in Kannada industry.
Assuring that “everything will be fine in a few days”, he said that abusing someone for his work shows another side of social media. She also thanked those who expressed concern, writing, “I’m really grateful. I’m here and love is here. KD is our baby and we will always do what’s right, and only what’s right. Trust us and smile more.”
A few days ago, the makers of KD – The Devil released the song ‘Sarke Chunar’ in five languages on YouTube. However, the Hindi version was criticized for its vulgar lyrics and choreography. After huge protests, the makers have removed the Hindi version of the song. Several celebrities and organizations including Armaan Malik, All India Cine Workers Association (AICWA) and National Human Rights Commission have condemned the lyrics of the song. According to lyricist Raqib Alam, he had warned in advance about the potential danger of censorship.
KD – The Devil is scheduled to release on April 30.
