After making a historic earning of over Rs 1300 crore at the box office, Aditya Dhar’s espionage thriller ‘Dhurandhar’ has now become a ‘super-blockbuster’ on OTT platform Netflix as well. After its digital premiere on January 30, the film has created viewership records which are proving difficult even for stars like Ranbir Kapoor and Allu Arjun to touch.

According to the latest data from Netflix, ‘Dhurandhar’ has garnered 7.8 million (78 lakh) views in its opening weekend (3 days) alone. This is the biggest opening ever for any Indian film on Netflix. The film is trending at number 1 not only in India but also in 7 countries including Pakistan, UAE and Bahrain. In the movies section, Kriti Sanon and Dhanush starrer Tere Ishq Mein stood second with 3.8 million views, while Dhurandhar emerged as a clear winner, leaving Animal comfortably behind.

The film’s strong digital performance highlights its wide appeal, especially for those who were unable to see it in theaters due to language barriers. The film, which released with Tamil and Telugu dubs, managed to grab attention once again after ruling the theaters for weeks. Apart from India, Aditya Dhar’s film was also trending in Pakistan, which further underlines its growing international popularity.
OTT quality sparked debate
Interestingly, Dhurandhar has made this record despite alleged quality problems. As soon as the film was released on Netflix, it received criticism for poor color grading and picture quality. Some viewers speculated that the film was censored for the digital platform, but a source clarified, “It is the same as the theatrical/CBFC-approved version. Like all theatrical films, the three-minute runtime difference is due to elements like interval plates or advertising requirements in theaters that are not there on digital platforms. This is normal and standard practice when films move from cinemas to streaming.” According to reports, the quality was improved after feedback.
Sequel buzz and digital rights
Meanwhile, the excitement about the franchise is continuously increasing. The teaser of Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge was released on 3 February, confirming the film’s release on 19 March.
