In an interview with Just Too Filmy, Konkana emphasized that most Hindi films do not show homosexual characters unless it is seen as ‘an issue’. He said, “There aren’t often characters in movies who are homosexual, unless we’re looking at it as an issue. Or unless, like a few decades ago, we’re getting some kind of derogatory humor out of it.”
The actor also emphasized the portrayal of disabled people in cinema. She added, “For example, people with disabilities are also not usually shown unless that issue is being talked about. Because people in our world are not, people in our world are by default. And the default is often straight, male, Hindi speaking. Not diverse enough.”

In the trailer of Excused, Geetika and Meera, played by Konkana and Pratibha, are seen going through a stressful phase in their relationship as tensions rise after allegations of sexual misconduct come to light. Geetika, completely helpless, watches her professional life, which she had carefully built over years, fall apart in front of her. Faced with increasing public scrutiny, Excused explores the pressure placed on the songstress’s closest relationships and examines how perception can often hide the truth.
In an interview with Variety, Konkana talked about the statistic that only 3 percent of the 2,500 films made in India last year were directed by women. The 46-year-old actor said, “This is a sad truth. The numbers are very, very low – 3 per cent is very low. It should be at least 50 per cent. Anything less than this is not acceptable.”
Accused will premiere on Netflix on February 27, 2026.
