Amita Singh Tomar had won Rs 50 lakh in KBC 5 in the year 2011. Amitabh Bachchan had then asked a question to Amita, who was sitting on the hot seat of KBC 5 – ‘In the war of 1857, who was the commander of the British army who fought against Rani Laxmibai and Tatya Tope in Gwalior?’ For this he was given these four options – A – Hugh Rose, B – Colonel Neal, C – William Hodson and D – John Nicholson.

Amita Singh Tomar chose ‘A-Hue Rose’ and won. After winning such a huge amount, his popularity increased in the whole of Gwalior. But in the year 2021, after the flood in Sheopur, Gwalior, he committed a scam of about Rs 2.5 crore from the relief compensation.

According to the Indian Express report, in the government records of Sheopur, 960 farmers in Baroda tehsil were listed as beneficiaries and Rs 24068720 were allotted after the survey. Investigators say a large part of this money did not reach the real beneficiaries, but went into 127 bank accounts that had no connection with the flood victims—these accounts belonged to people from remote towns like Shivpuri and Manpur, and in some cases to relatives of the patwaris who had prepared the compensation lists.

Amita Singh Tomar had resigned from her post in the year 2023. However, he later withdrew his resignation. He had written in his letter, “I have been insulted for the last five years. I thought that when the new collector comes, I will get the charge of the tehsil, but it did not happen.” According to Times Now, Amita worked in different departments for five years, but she was not given any special responsibility. In 2023, she was on the post of Chief Officer looking after land records.
