The last rites of veteran singer Asha Bhosle will be performed with state honors at Mumbai’s Shivaji Park on Monday afternoon. Bhosale died on Sunday at Breach Candy Hospital in south Mumbai. She was 92 years old. The singer’s mortal remains were later brought from the hospital to her residence in Lower Parel here. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis visited Bhosale’s residence on Sunday evening and paid tribute to him.

Bhosale was popular among the people as ‘Asha Tai’. He was awarded the Padma Vibhushan and Maharashtra Bhushan. State Cultural Affairs Minister Ashish Shelar, MLAs Sunil Shinde and Prasad Lad also paid tribute to the late singer. Shelar said, “Asha Bhosle will be given a final farewell with state honors on April 13 at 4 pm.”

Earlier in the day, the singer’s son Anand Bhosle had told reporters here that people could pay homage at 11 am on Monday at Casa Grande in Lower Parel, where she lived. He had told reporters, “His last rites will be performed at Shivaji Park on Monday at 4 pm.”
