OTT platform ZEE5 has officially announced its new Hindi original film ‘Ikroop’. Versatile actresses Gauhar Khan and Mithila Palkar will be seen together in lead roles for the first time in this jail-drama film. Part of the platform’s multilingual content, the film will tell a highly emotional story of courage behind bars, sisterly friendship and the spirit of revenge.
Directed by Akram Hassa and produced by Geo Studios and AAZ Films, ‘Ikroop’ is the story of a young rape survivor who is wrongly convicted of a crime she did not commit.
Trapped in a dysfunctional justice system, she loses her freedom, dignity, and hope. However, his life begins to change when he befriends a fearless prisoner, who inspires him to stand up and fight instead of giving in to the situation.
Talking about the film, Gauhar Khan told India Today, “What attracted me to ‘Ikroop’ was its emotional honesty and the way it challenges traditional ways of storytelling. The film is about courage, strength and the extraordinary strength that one can overcome even in the most difficult situations.”
She added, “What makes it special is that it doesn’t seek sympathy for its characters, but rather celebrates their spirit, their ability to make their own decisions, and their ability to chart their own journey. Being a part of a story that’s so powerful and full of human emotions has been so special, and I can’t wait for audiences to see it.”
Mithila Palkar, who played an important role in the film, was last seen in director Priyadarshan’s horror-comedy ‘Bhoot Bangla’ (2026). In this film, actors like Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal, Jisshu Sengupta, Rajpal Yadav, Tabu, Vamika Gabbi and Asrani were in important roles.
Mithila was also seen in the Netflix series ‘Super Subbu’ (2026), starring Sandeep Kishan and Murali Sharma in important roles.
‘Ikroop’ is going to be released soon on Zee5.
