On July 20, during the ‘Cockroach Janata Party’ (CJP) protest in New Delhi, policemen lathicharged students. Many protesters and students have been injured during this period. At the same time, ‘Tujhse Hai Raabta’ fame Sehban Azim was also present at the protest site at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar in support of the students. The TV actor claims that the police also beat him up. In fact, in a recent interview, Sehban Azim claimed that he was hit with sticks several times, due to which he got injured and now his hand is swollen.

Let us tell you that during the interview given to ‘Mid-Day’, Sehban Azim narrated his story. He said, “The scene was very sad. I had gone to join the protest in support of the students and two of my female friends from Mumbai had also come. When I was saving them from the lathi charge, I got hurt. My hand has become swollen. They hit me several times on my hands, legs and other parts of the body.”

Sehban claimed that the protesters were stopped by the police before they could reach the designated place at Jantar Mantar. He said, “We couldn’t even reach inside Jantar Mantar, where the protest was actually taking place. The police had put up barricades all around and started beating us by trapping us in the middle. They didn’t even care who they were beating, whether it was small children, women or anyone else.”
The actor accused the police of deliberately attacking the students and said, “It seemed like the entire lathi charge was deliberate. They just wanted us all to leave from there.” A picture of Azim from the protest site has also surfaced on social media.

Many TV actors have supported CJP’s protests.
Let us tell you that many TV celebrities including Karan Kundra and Elvish Yadav have also raised their voice in support of the protests taking place in the capital. Earlier on Tuesday, Elvish Yadav, reacting to the lathicharge on NEET protesters, had written on Instagram, “I am neither a supporter of BJP nor of Congress. But what is happening with the students is completely wrong. The students who came forward with their legitimate problems should not have been subjected to violence. Their views should be heard and appropriate action should be taken.”
While TV actor Shoaib Ibrahim shared a video of the Jantar Mantar protest and added a heartbroken emoji, in another story he wrote, ‘It is not about any party, it is about accountability.’ Urfi Javed also condemned the violence on social media and raised questions on the response of the authorities during the Chalo Sansad march.
