Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey created history, became the biggest global opener of his career

Veteran Hollywood director Christopher Nolan’s much-awaited film ‘The Odyssey’ has taken the Indian and global box office by storm. This film, which was released in Indian theaters on July 17, has received an excellent response from the audience. The performance of films like ‘Dhamal 4’, ‘Alpha’, ‘Evil Dead Burn’ and ‘Welcome to the Jungle’ which were already present at the box office in front of Nolan’s film was also interesting.

Let’s see which film earned how much at the Indian box office on Sunday. ‘The Odyssey’ broke the record of ‘The Dark Knight Rises’. Starring big stars like Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson and Zendaya, ‘The Odyssey’ made a bang in India. After collecting Rs 17.40 crore on opening day on Friday and Rs 22 crore on Saturday, the film went on to earn a grand total of Rs 21.90 crore on Sunday. With this, the total weekend collection of the film in India for three days has become Rs 61.30 crore.

Creating history globally, the film has achieved the biggest worldwide opening of Nolan’s career so far. ‘The Odyssey’ has made approximately Rs 2,270 crore (US$264.1 million) worldwide in its first weekend. This includes earnings of Rs 1,200 crore (US$139.6 million) from the international market and Rs 1,070 crore (US$124.5 million) from the North American box office. With this explosive earning, the film has destroyed the opening weekend record of Nolan’s blockbuster ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ (Rs 2,140 crore).The performance gave Nolan his biggest opening to date.

 

Ajay Devgan, Arshad Warsi and Riteish Deshmukh starrer ‘Dhamaal 4’ was also successful on the weekend. The comedy film earned Rs 12.75 crore on Sunday, taking its total domestic collection to Rs 124.50 crore.

Hollywood horror film ‘Evil Dead Burn’ also performed well at the Indian box office. The film earned Rs 1.95 crore on Sunday, taking its total to Rs 26.25 crore.

Despite having Alia Bhatt, Sharvari, Anil Kapoor and Bobby Deol in the cast, ‘Alpha’ is struggling to maintain its pace. Its earnings have now reached lakhs; The film earned only Rs 64 lakh on Sunday. Its total box office collection now stands at Rs 57.74 crore.

 

Akshay Kumar starrer ‘Welcome to the Jungle’ – which also stars Suniel Shetty, Arshad Warsi and many others – continued to earn consistently at the theatres. The film earned Rs 66 lakh on Sunday, taking its total to Rs 133.11 crore.
