Bollywood actress and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut has openly supported the statement of Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel, in which she advised women to learn cooking at all costs. The controversy comes at a time when Ranaut – who has often spoken about women empowerment and played lead roles in films like ‘Queen’ – is gearing up for the release of Vikas Bahl’s directorial debut ‘Queen 2’. In her speech, Patel said, “Today’s women should learn to cook for their families, whether you become a teacher or an IAS officer. You must first become a skilled mother.” She further said, “What is the duty of a mother? To prepare her daughter in every way. She should not face any difficulties in her in-laws’ house. And if it happens, she should face them on the basis of her ability. We have to give that strength to our daughters.”
Supporting those views, Ranaut said that caring comes naturally to women. Reminiscing about her childhood, she wrote, “When we were young, my brother used to play football and cricket, but I would carefully make doll houses, stitch their clothes and cook their food, which would amuse everyone in the house. I would make small stoves and pretend to be the dolls’ mother.”

She further added, “This is not something we need to learn. God has entrusted us with the duty of taking care of humanity, it is our true nature, that is why women are known as Goddess, Shakti, Annapurna, Mata and so on, but beyond all this, it is a great joy to love, feed, dance and take care.”
In the same speech, Patel also referred to recent incidents in which women allegedly killed their would-be husbands to escape family-arranged marriages; He described such cases as “unimaginable”. After this, Ranaut’s support started being criticized online.
