Indian star cricketer Virat Kohli is once again in the headlines, but this time the reason is not his bat but his Instagram ‘likes’. By liking an old photo of South African influencer LizLaz, Kohli has unknowingly created a storm of reactions on social media. The incident came into limelight when fans saw that Kohli had liked a post by influencer LizLaz and photographer Advait Vaidya. Surprisingly, Kohli does not follow that influencer. Within no time, the screenshots of this like went viral and fans turned it into a big ‘meme fest’. A fan quipped: “Kohli liked this post on Instagram. Looks like another explanatory paragraph on the algorithm is loading.”

Another user echoed Kohli’s previous explanation and wrote, “Guys, it’s just an algorithm glitch and it happens to everyone. Sometimes, I see posts on my Insta that I would never have liked.” Social media was flooded with reactions, with fans finding the moment a joke rather than a controversy. The phrase “The algorithm has registered yet another interaction” became a running joke as users recalled Kohli’s earlier explanation for a similar incident.

Despite this off-field discussion, Kohli is continuing his excellent form for Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2026.He scored 49 runs in 34 balls against Lucknow Super Giants, helping RCB seal a five-wicket win. With this innings, he reached the top of the list of highest run-scorers this season, and became the Indian opener to hit the most number of sixes in the history of IPL, leaving behind KL Rahul.

Did Kohli make another algorithmic mistake?

This is not the first time that Kohli’s social media activity has made headlines. In 2025, he “liked” a post on a fan page dedicated to Bollywood actress and influencer Avneet Kaur, sparking similar speculations and online discussions. At the time, Kohli clarified that it was an unintentional interaction, and attributed it to a technical glitch in the algorithm while clearing the Instagram feed.
Now that explanation has become a different story in itself.
With this latest incident, fans immediately recalled the same argument, turning it into a meme rather than a debate. This oft-repeated pattern has added to the fun, and now users are fully engaged in the meme-fest.
