Senior journalist and anchor Dibang had asked Manoj Bajpayee how he chooses his films. To this the actor said, “I don’t choose any character, I choose the script. I choose the character present in that script. It doesn’t matter whether the character is based on a real person, a dead person, or a fictional character whom I have never played before.”
Same type of approach becomes boring for every character
He said, the more I torture myself, the more I enjoy it. I always wonder why you became an actor. Or you have become an actor only for glamor or you have become an actor because you will get name, money and fame. For me, the journey from village to reaching Delhi is very long, about 18 years. At the time I came, there were not many facilities. That’s why I kept on molding Aya into different characters. If an actor follows the same grammar and uses it for every character, then it becomes boring for me. So I read it very quickly. For me, these become very predictable things about how he will approach, how he will perform.
Manoj lives the character till the end of the film.
Manoj further said, “There are two types of actors, one who invites the character to himself and the other who goes near the character. I believe in going near the character.” He said, “Getting into the character is sometimes like descending into a dark well, but that is the journey I enjoy the most. “Till the film ends, I keep living in the same character.”
