Left home and reached Mumbai at the age of 18
Jeevan was born in Kashmir in the year 1915. He had dreams of becoming an actor since childhood. But nature had something else in mind. His mother passed away as soon as Jeevan was born. His father left him when he was 3 years old. He was born in a family where he was not allowed to act. Therefore, at the age of 18, he ran away from home and came to Mumbai. He reached Mumbai with only 26 rupees. The initial phase of his career was quite a struggle.
Film journey started from job in studio
Jeevan, who was going through a lot of struggle, wanted to do a job, he got a job in a studio. This studio belonged to Mohan Lal Sinha. At that time Mohan Lal was a very well-known director. When he came to know that Jeevan wanted to do acting, he worked in his film ‘Fashionable India’. After this he got work in many films one after the other. He played the role of ‘Narad Muni’ in almost 60 films of different languages.
Got recognition from ‘Romantic India’
Jeevan played the role of ‘Narada’ in almost every film made in the 50s. He got recognition from the film ‘Romantic India’ made in the year 1935. After this he never looked back. His ‘Afsana’, ‘Station Master’, ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’ and ‘Dharam-Veer’ are very memorable films. He played excellent roles in films like Naagin, Shabnam, Heer-Ranjha, Johnny Mera Naam, Kanoon, Suraksha, Laawaris.

Omkar Nath Dhar was named ‘Jeevan’ by Vijay Bhatt. He also worked in Punjabi films. Jeevan also tried his hand in fields like photography, dance, action, music, but he did not get success. He died on 10 June 1987 at the age of 71.
