If you’re waiting to watch ‘Project Hail Mary’ at home on OTT, you may have to wait a little longer. The makers have made it clear that currently the film will be shown only in theaters, and there are no immediate plans to release it on OTT.
The film’s co-director Christopher Miller, while sharing this information on X, said that Amazon MGM Studios has extended the time of showing the film only in theatres. Emphasizing that the film was made on a large scale, he said that the film was made to be seen on the big screen, especially now that it is being shown again on IMAX screens for some time.

Miller wrote, “This is a film that deserves to be seen on the big screen,” and urged audiences to go see it in theaters with their friends and family.
Ryan Gosling and Sandra Huller starrer ‘Project Hail Mary’ is based on Andy Weir’s 2021 novel of the same name. The story revolves around a school teacher who later becomes an astronaut, and is tasked with saving the sun from a mysterious threat. Since its release in March, the film has performed well at the worldwide box office; Reportedly, it has grossed over $517 million worldwide.
This decision seems quite an outlier at a time when many films these days end up on premium video-on-demand platforms within weeks of their release. For example, ‘Scream 7’ became available to watch at home just over a month after its theatrical release.

Part of the film’s review in IndiaToday read, “The film strikes a perfect balance between grandeur and seriousness. On the surface, it’s about the sun going out and humanity’s last stand. But at its deepest core, it’s about relationships: who we trust, how we become human in difficult times, and what it means to not be alone when everything seems to be coming to an end.”
For now, ‘Project Hail Mary’ can only be enjoyed on the big screen.
