Politics in India has been the talk of the town ever since the results of the 2026 assembly elections in these four states – West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Assam – were announced. Even though the political atmosphere in Kerala and Assam was not much discussed, the defeat of Mamata Banerjee and the victory of actor-turned-politician Vijay caught everyone’s attention on the internet. In the elections, Mamata Banerjee’s party, All India Trinamool Congress (TMC), has faced defeat by a huge margin from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in its own stronghold. Frustrated by this defeat, Mamata Banerjee refused to resign from the post of Chief Minister. At the same time, stars from Bollywood to TV are now taking a jibe at Mamta’s defeat.

Taking a dig at TMC’s defeat in the West Bengal Assembly elections 2026, TV actress Devoleena shared a post on social media, in which she targeted outgoing Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. Vivek Agnihotri congratulated the public on Mamata Banerjee’s defeat.
Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri, while celebrating the results of Bangas elections, called it an important moment of change. The ‘Kashmir Files’ director issued a detailed statement on Instagram on May 5 alleging that Mamata Banerjee had launched a kind of campaign against him in West Bengal. Vivek had written in his post, “Never again, let me tell those who do not know that after the release of The Kashmir Files, Mamata boycotted me in Bengal. The film was removed from theaters and she said that I will not be allowed to enter Bengal.”
The filmmaker further wrote, “Last year, they completely banned The Bengal Files in West Bengal. Our trailer launch was stopped. We were attacked and manhandled. Dozens of FIRs were filed against me. I was boycotted in Bengal. I couldn’t even go to receive my award from the Governor.” He further said, “But we never gave up. During these elections, we ensured that The Bengal Files was shown (secretly) to as many people as possible across Bengal. I am happy that we did not give up and fought in our own small way.”
Quoting Rabindranath Tagore’s famous poem ‘Jahan Man Bhaymukt Ho’, the filmmaker congratulated the people of Bengal and appreciated their right decision. He wrote, “And finally… this unprecedented victory. Congratulations to the great people of Bengal. Now you can walk fearlessly, with your heads held high.”
