Born in Amritsar, Punjab, Bharti Singh’s childhood went through a lot of troubles. When she was just two years old, her father disappeared. After this, the responsibility of Bharti and her two elder siblings (Dheeraj and Pinky) fell on her mother Kamala Singh. To feed the family, the mother worked in other people’s houses, from sweeping and mopping to cleaning toilets. The situation was so bad that many times the entire family had to survive on scraps from other people’s houses.
Bharti’s luck changed when she started doing theater during her college days. There senior comedians Sudesh Lahiri and Abu Sharma recognized his talent and encouraged him to audition for ‘The Great Indian Laughter Challenge’ (2008). When the show was about to return with a new season in 2018, Bharti did not sign any other project and waited only for Kapil for about 8-9 months. Bharti had told that Kapil had promised her that whenever he returns, they will work together and Bharti kept that promise. Even after success, Bharti Singh had to face a lot of body-shaming for her weight. When she married Harsh Limbachiyaa, people trolled her badly on social media. Describing this pain, Bharti had said in an interview, ‘I felt very bad at the time of marriage when the pictures came out. I know I was fat, but that was our love. It’s my choice whether I marry a short man or a very tall one, it’s my life but people come to judge.
He further said, ‘People used to comment that blind people are getting married, she is so fat, she will kill Harsh, he is so thin. Some people made me realize that you are fat and ugly, you should have married a fat and ugly boy. People also told Harsh that his glasses would break with this. We used to read such comments a lot.
Today Bharti Singh is one of the most successful and highest paid comedians of TV. From making hit comedy shows to hosting big reality shows with husband Harsh Limbachiyaa, Bharti has achieved a great position.
