Shagufta Ali has worked in many hit TV shows and films in her long career. After seeing many times in the industry, he recently spoke openly about the changing environment of today’s TV sets. He says that now the manners and discipline are no longer the same as before.
Shagufta Ali’s talk on today’s TV industry
In an interview given to Siddharth Kannan, Shagufta Ali told what she misses the most in today’s TV industry. He said, ‘The TV serials being made in the last few years do not have the same etiquette as before. If you ask old actors of the industry, they will also say the same thing. This is not just my complaint. All the senior artists will agree that today the etiquette and manners on the sets are not the same as before.
He further said, ‘Nowadays people do not even remember small things like saying ‘Good morning’, ‘Hello’ or ‘Hi’. Earlier there used to be respect and affection for each other on the set, but now that atmosphere has changed a lot.

‘Nowadays people are busy on their phones’
Shagufta Ali said that nowadays mobile phones have become the biggest distraction on TV sets. He said, ‘If an artist is standing behind in the scene, then his eyes should be on the artist acting in front, so that he can give the right reaction. But nowadays people are so busy on the phone that the director keeps calling on the microphone again and again, yet they do not pay attention. I myself saw a new actress, who was so lost in the phone that she could not even hear the director’s voice.
Recalling his times, Shagufta Ali said that earlier artists were more serious and disciplined about their work. Whether I got along personally with the director or not, there was always respect for him and his orders were also followed on the set.
Shagufta Ali said that the lack of discipline on today’s TV sets bothers her the most. According to him, now less attention is paid to rehearsals, whereas looking at oneself on the monitor, taking selfies and getting photographed has become more important for many artistes.
It is not easy for Shagufta to adopt today’s work culture.
He said that it is not easy for him to adopt today’s work culture. The artists neither pay full attention to what the director says nor take the rehearsals seriously. Shagufta Ali also expressed displeasure over the conversations taking place during shooting on the sets.
He said, ‘The sound recordist and director keep saying ‘silence please’ again and again, but still some people keep talking among themselves. After the take is over, talk as much as you want, but at least remain calm during the shooting. If you cannot remain silent even in a two-minute scene, then what is the point of saying silence? Seeing the condition of the TV industry today, I don’t feel like working.
Shagufta’s workfront
Shagufta Ali entered Hindi cinema in the year 1988 with the film ‘Geeta Ki Saugandh’ and made her TV debut in the year 1989 with the TV show ‘Dard’. She has been seen in shows like Punar Vivah, Ek Veer Ki Ardaas, Sasural Simar Ka and Saath Nibhana Saathiya Mein.

She was supposed to play the role of Aditya Gupta’s grandmother, but due to health issues she had to leave the show. After this the makers cast actress Neelu Vaghela in her place.
