Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah completes 18 years. Asit Modi told that Amit Bhatt shaved his head for 2 years for the role of Champak Chacha. Dilip Joshi first got the role of Champaklal, but later he won everyone’s hearts by playing the role of Jethalal.
The show ‘Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah’ is counted among the best comedy shows of TV. Recently it completed 18 years and on this special occasion, Asit Modi spoke in a press conference on Tuesday along with Jethalal, Babita ji and the entire team. During this, he revealed about Amit Bhatt (Champak Chacha) that he had shaved his head continuously for two years to stay fit in this role.
He told, “When I cast Amit ji, I told him that my father had no hair. So, for two years, he regularly went to the salon and got his hair shaved. He sacrificed his hair completely. I think it was like offering his hair to God. He gave his hair for the show with all his heart. I don’t know who is lucky, but the show has been blessed.”

At the same time, actor Dilip Joshi also told while talking to the media that initially he had got the offer to play the role of Champaklal (Jethalal’s father) in the show. However, he was later selected for the show’s lead character Jethalal.

Recalling the incident with producer Asit Modi, the actor said, “When Asit Bhai gave me the option to choose the character of either Champaklal or Jethalal, I said that I will not choose the character of Champaklal, because I did not resemble the look and image of that character at all.”

He further said, “I also refused to choose the character of Jethalal immediately, because a cartoon of Tarak Bhai’s character was published in a Gujarati magazine. It showed a very thin and curly-haired man. I had been reading such things since childhood. Then I thought that I would try, but by the grace of God, our journey reached here.”
