Anil Kapoor remembered his father’s struggle
In a conversation with Lily Singh, Anil Kapoor, remembering his father, said, ‘My father was a very good person. He came to Mumbai in the late 50s or early 60s. First he worked as an assistant to K. Asif and later became an actor’s manager. Wherever he went in the film industry, people always said how good and honest a person he was, not how successful he was. First of all people used to praise him for being a human being. He was my father.

Anil Kapoor recalled, ‘When I said that I want to become an actor, he said okay, go ahead, but I can’t make a film for you. You will have to find work yourself. According to Anil Kapoor, this was the biggest lesson for him, because his father gave him the freedom to take his own decisions and fulfill his dreams on his own.

Anil Kapoor started taking his acting career seriously at a very young age, especially when his family was going through difficult times. He told, ‘I started making my career at the age of 18-19. Even before I completed my studies, my father’s health deteriorated and he had a heart attack. At that time it was becoming difficult for him to cast big stars in films. That’s when I decided that I wanted to become an actor, a leading man.

Rajesh Khanna’s flop film changed everything
Anil Kapoor also shared a painful memory related to his father Surinder Kapoor. He told that once his father’s film was released, in which big superstar like Rajesh Khanna was there. Everyone expected that the film would be a big hit, but it flopped miserably. He said, ‘I remember, within a few hours people’s attitude had changed.’

Recalling that moment further, he said, ‘He had reached Bangalore after traveling from Delhi, but no one came to pick him up at the airport. It seemed as if everyone had abandoned him. This was very shocking for me. When he came back, even though he was not crying, the pain was clearly visible in his eyes.
