Bollywood’s ‘Powerhouse’ actor Ranveer Singh is once again in the midst of controversies. A case has been registered against Ranveer, known for his energy and unique fashion sense, for allegedly hurting religious sentiments. As soon as this news came out, a debate broke out on social media.
Case registered against Ranveer Singh
Bengaluru’s ‘High Grounds’ police have registered a case against Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh for hurting religious sentiments during a public event. Police gave this information on Thursday. A case was registered against the actor under relevant sections of the Indian Judicial Code on Wednesday after the court of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate handed over the complaint of Bengaluru-based lawyer Prashant Mithal (46) to the concerned department for investigation.

Allegedly mocked the sacred ‘Bhoot Kola’ tradition prevalent in Karnataka
According to the complaint, the incident took place during the closing ceremony of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) held in Goa on November 28 last year. The complaint states that the actor allegedly mocked and insulted the sacred ‘Bhoot Kola’ tradition prevalent in Karnataka on stage in the presence of the lead actor of the film ‘Kantara: Chapter 1’.
Chavundi deity was called “female ghost”
The complainant stated that he is a devotee of ‘Chavundi Daiva’, a deity worshiped in the Bhoot Kola ritual and is also his family deity. He alleged that the actor copied the divine postures of ‘Panjurli/Guliga Daiva’ in an obscene, ridiculous and insulting manner and called Chavundi Daiva a “female ghost”. The complaint also said that despite Daiva’s alleged request not to copy, Ranveer Singh performed an emotional Chavundi Daiva scene from ‘Kantara: Chapter 1’ on stage.

In the complaint, this act has been described as blasphemy and a serious insult to Hindu religious beliefs. The complaint said that this act of the actor went viral on social media, causing deep mental distress, anger and immense resentment among the devotees. “The accused committed this act deliberately and maliciously, with the intention of hurting religious sentiments,” the complainant alleged.
