A big update has come out regarding ‘The Pride of India: Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’, one of the grandest and ambitious films of Indian cinema. The makers have officially welcomed Bollywood actress Bhumi Pednekar into the cast of this multi-starrer film. In the film, Bhumi will be seen sharing the screen with veteran South Indian cinema star Rishabh Shetty for the first time.This film is all set to be released in theaters across the world on the special occasion of Republic Day on 21 January 2027.

Bhumi Pednekar is going to play a very powerful and historical role in the film. She will play the character of fearless warrior queen Belawadi Mallamma.

Rani Belawadi Mallamma is one of those heroines of history, who showed indomitable courage to protect her motherland during the era of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. However, the makers have kept Bhumi Pednekar’s look and poster completely secret till now. This will be the first on-screen collaboration of Rishabh Shetty and Bhumi Pednekar, about which there is a lot of curiosity among the audience.

In December 2024, the film’s directors Sandeep Singh and Rishabh Shetty shared the first look as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj through a joint post.
Rishabh Shetty wrote in an emotional note:“It is our honor and privilege to present the magnificent saga of India’s greatest warrior king—‘The Pride of India: Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’. It is not just a film, but a voice in honor of a warrior who braved all odds, challenged the mighty Mughal Empire and created a legacy that can never be erased.”

A look at the work front of both the artists
Rishabh Shetty: After the historic success of ‘Kantara’, Rishabh Shetty was seen in the blockbuster ‘Kantara: Chapter 2’ (2025), which created new records of earnings at the box office. Apart from this, he will be seen in Prashant Verma’s superhero sequel ‘Jai Hanuman’ and an untitled film being produced by Naga Vamsi.
Bhumi Pednekar: Bhumi was seen in ‘Mere Husband Ki Biwi’ (2025) alongside Arjun Kapoor and Rakul Preet Singh. Recently, he has received a lot of praise for his excellent acting in the popular OTT series ‘Daldal’ (2026).
This period-action drama, being made on a grand scale under the direction of Sandeep Singh, is being considered one of the biggest releases of 2027.
