Great playback singer S. People from various walks of life in Kerala expressed grief over Janaki’s demise on Sunday. Film personalities, musicians and people associated with public life paid emotional tribute to him and remembered his incomparable contribution to Indian film music. Janaki died due to age-related ailments at a private hospital in Mysuru on Saturday. She was 88 years old. According to family sources, he was admitted to the hospital after having trouble breathing on Friday night, where he died on Saturday.
Film personalities expressed grief
Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Pinarayi Vijayan said Janaki’s demise marks the end of a glorious era of Indian cinema and music. Vijayan said in a post on social media platform She gave expression to our deepest feelings through each of her songs and became an integral part of our memories and lives.Vijayan said that Janaki’s music will resonate for generations to come and her extraordinary legacy will live on forever.
Actor Mohanlal described Janaki as the “nightingale of India” in a post on Facebook, saying her soulful songs in Malayalam, Hindi and many other languages defined an entire era. He said that Janaki had sung the songs of his first film ‘Manjil Virinja Pookkal’ and for this he would remain indebted to her throughout his life.
Mohanlal said that the singer gave voice to every human emotion including happiness, sadness and innocence with her magical voice. He said that he considers himself fortunate that many of the songs sung by Janaki were filmed on him. The actor described Janaki as a calm, affectionate personality who treated everyone equally and said that he had a close personal relationship with her.
He prayed for the peace of the departed soul. Actor Mammootty paid tribute to Janaki by sharing a picture on social media. Actress Manju Warrier also shared his picture on Facebook and wrote, “Art remains immortal.”
Playback singer G. Venugopal said that the melodious songs sung by Janaki during the golden era of music will always live on. Playback singer M.G. Sreekumar described Janaki’s singing style as “a textbook for every student of music”.
Music composer M. Jayachandran said that Janaki was the epitome of purity, humility, love and dedication. Known for his versatility, Janaki recorded over 48,000 songs in over 20 languages. Among these, songs in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam languages are prominent.
