Actor Ajay Devgan’s upcoming film “Chauhan” has been embroiled in major controversies as soon as its first teaser was released. A large section of social media, including Rajput organization ‘Kshatriya Parishad’ and actress Swara Bhaskar, have reacted sharply to this teaser released three days ago. The film has faced serious allegations of inciting communal and caste sentiments by misusing historical memories and showing the Kashmir dispute in an insensitive manner.

Reacting to the controversial teaser of the film “Chauhan”, Rajput organization Kshatriya Parishad on Monday said historical memory should not be used to create communal mobilization and its makers should refrain from using the name Rajput to incite “caste and communal sentiments”. The film has been criticized for the way it depicts the Kashmir conflict and for claiming that pellet guns cause “very little harm”. Devgan’s voice is heard in the ‘teaser’ of the film released three days ago, in which he is preparing to fight the mob.
There is a line in the ‘teaser’, “Tell the Pathans that Chauhan is coming”, which many people on social media have described as an attempt to promote division on religious lines. Now Kshatriya Parishad has expressed its views on the use of the name “Chauhan”. “Historical memories should not be used for communal mobilization,” Kshatriya Parishad said in a statement. We appeal to political figures, filmmakers and media organizations to look at India’s past in a responsible manner.
The statement strongly criticized the film’s director Neeraj Yadav and actor Devgan, accusing them of “using the name of Chauhan dynasty for present-day communal politics”, and said they reject every attempt to use Rajput history as a political weapon, and misuse Rajput identity for electoral or ideological purposes. The Kshatriya Council referred to historical events when Rajputs and Pathans fought together and for each other.

Actress Swara Bhaskar, while sharing a news report related to the youngest victim of ‘pellet gun’ in Kashmir, wrote in a post, “Is this what Bollywood wants to glorify? Pellet gun is not a weapon of limited damage. This is a serious violation of human rights. And mainstream Kashmiris are not Pathans. Do some research.” He titled his post, ”Vivek Agnihotriisation of Bollywood.” This was in reference to producer Vivek Agnihotri’s film ‘The Kashmir Files.’ Produced under the banner of ‘Jio Studios’ and ‘Color Yellow Productions’, “Chauhan” will be released in theaters on October 1.
