National Award winning Malayalam actor Salim Kumar died on Saturday night at the age of 56. According to media reports, the actor was admitted to Amrita Hospital in Kochi on Saturday.
The Kerala government confirmed his demise in an official statement and expressed deep condolences on the demise of the veteran actor. In its statement, the government described Salim Kumar as a popular film actor and praised his contribution to Malayalam cinema.
Salim Kumar passes away
Family sources told PTI that the actor died while being treated for pneumonia at a private hospital. He told that Salim died at around 10.43 pm on Saturday night. Salim Kumar had undergone liver transplant only a few years ago. He was admitted to the hospital earlier in the day and was put on a ventilator.

Mammootty wrote an emotional farewell message on Twitter. He wrote- “Salim, who used to laugh and make others laugh, think and make others think and sometimes cry and make others cry, now you just make me cry. Dear brother, your departure has become an unending sorrow….”
Additionally, several celebrities from the Malayalam film industry expressed their condolences.

The actor received the National Film Award for Best Actor in 2010 for his performance in the film ‘Adaminte Makan Abu’. Also, he received the Best Actor Award at the Kerala State Film Awards for ‘Achanurangatha Veedu’ in 2005.
