The controversy pertains to certain scenes that contained incorrect camera angles and objectionable dialogues that normalized assault, harassment and non-consensual acts. These scenes have sparked debate on how Janhvi Kapoor’s character ‘Achiamma’ was written, framed and presented in this commercial entertainer.
What did the director of ‘Peddi’ say in his apology?
In his statement, the ‘Peddi’ director wrote, “The purpose of cinema should be to entertain, inspire and connect with the audience. It should never make anyone feel uncomfortable or insulted.” He said that the feedback received regarding some scenes has been heard and considered.
Responding to the criticism, she clarified, “Our intention was never to objectify or insult any female character.” He further added that if any part of the film has been interpreted differently, the team respects those sentiments and understands the concerns raised.

Will Jhanvi Kapoor’s scenes be changed in ‘Peddi’?
Buchi Babu Sana confirmed that the team has decided to make changes in the relevant parts after reviewing the audience feedback. He stressed that the style of film making should change with the sensibilities and expectations of the audience.
“After reviewing the feedback, we have decided to make changes in the relevant parts,” he said. He said cinema thrives on engagement with the audience and expects responsibility from storytellers.
What next for ‘Peddi’?
The post-production of the film is underway, and the team is expected to soon incorporate the changes and send it to theaters. Butchi Babu also reiterated his commitment towards portraying the film in a respectable manner on screen.
“Every woman deserves to be treated with respect, importance and dignity,” she said. He said the team is focusing on telling stories that feature strong and meaningful characters. The director also thanked the audience for sharing their opinions honestly and truthfully. ‘Peddi’ releases in theaters on June 4, 2026.
