“Kartavya” released on Netflix is in the news these days, but the film seems to completely fail to give something new to the audience. This crime drama revolves around an honest police officer, corrupt politicians and old issues like honor killing, which viewers have seen in many films before. The story of the film seems quite predictable and one keeps waiting for some big twist the whole time, but nothing special is seen till the end.
Saif Ali Khan is seen in the role of an honest police officer in the film and his performance turns out to be the biggest strength of the film. His dialogue delivery, screen presence and serious style make many scenes better. However, despite strong acting, he is not able to handle the weak story completely.
Saurabh Dwivedi appears in the role of a villain in the film, but his character does not seem that impressive. At many places his screen presence felt weak and the audience expected a more powerful performance from him. Sanjay Mishra and Rasika Duggal do decent work in their roles, but they did not get much scope.
The audience had high expectations from director Pulkit, who had made films like “Bhakshak”, but this time his direction could not leave much impact. The screenplay and treatment of the film feels quite old, due to which it remains an average crime thriller.
Overall, “Kartavya” is a film which can be seen once only for the strong acting of Saif Ali Khan. If you are expecting a fresh and engaging crime thriller, then this film may disappoint you.
