The divorce case going on between veteran Tamil cinema actor Vijay and his wife Sangeeta is now getting deeper into legal matters. The case was heard in Chengalpet Family Court on Monday, in which the judge has given strict orders to both the parties to appear in the court in person on June 15. In fact, neither Vijay nor Sangeeta were present in the court during the hearing scheduled on April 20 (Monday), after which the court made the presence of both mandatory by fixing the next date.According to the divorce petition filed in February, Sangeeta claimed that Vijay was having an illicit affair with a female actress, which she came to know about in 2021. Despite Vijay’s assurance that he would end the relationship, the petition alleges that he continued it without any remorse.
The document further states that Vijay excluded Sangeeta from his social and professional circle, while he continued to accompany the female actress on foreign trips and attending public events. The petition also pointed out that the actor often shared pictures of these meetings on social media, which Vijay neither denied nor raised any objection to, thereby tacitly accepting them. Sangeeta argued that these posts caused her and her two children—Jason Sanjay and Divya Sasha—to face repeated humiliation. Additionally, the petition accused Vijay of withdrawing facilities already available to Sangeeta and imposing financial restrictions, including limiting her free movement.

Sangeeta further alleged that Vijay’s continuous behavior and the controversies he raised on social media in 2024 caused her severe mental trauma; He claimed that their marriage is now completely broken and survives only on paper. He said that now there is no scope for reconciliation in this relationship and from this he is getting nothing but mental pain, disrespect, insult and suffering. These claims form the grounds for their divorce under sections 27(1)(a) and 27(1)(d) of the Special Marriage Act.

Sangeeta has filed for divorce, through which she wants to end her 27-year-old married life with Vijay.
