Divya says, “I remember I had taken about 20 films, because there was a time when I did not have any film and suddenly, I got so many offers that I accepted them all.”

Why returned money after signing 20 films?
However, after a chance meeting with Aditya Chopra, Divya abandoned all the films on which she had not yet started work. She worked with Aditya Chopra in ‘Veer-Zaara’ and ‘Aaja Nachle’. Divya says, “One day, I just happened to meet Aditya Chopra and have a cup of tea with him. We had just completed ‘Aaja Nachle’. I told him I had signed 20 films. He didn’t respond, so I asked him, ‘Aren’t you excited for me?’ He said, ‘Are you short of work? Or do you need money?’ I was very surprised to hear this and I said, ‘No.’ Then he asked me why I was signing so many films. ‘You are a very good actor, why don’t you leave behind a legacy that people will always remember?’

The actress said that the conversation with Aditya Chopra changed her way of looking at work and opportunities. She said, “This shocked me to my core. I had never thought about it that way. It was my choice to listen to him or continue making money from those 20 films. There was a lot at stake. But I went back and returned the signing amount for the films for which I had not yet started shooting. From then on, I only did what I enjoyed. That’s the decision I took.”
