Actress Shabana Azmi has said that women usually have a modest character in crime -based films, but the recently released is not the case in her ‘Dabba Cartel’ series.
Azmi said in an interview with ‘PTI-Bhasha’, “When you see women in such situations, you always see them as a hanger.” She is either shown as an attractive woman or plays a minor character. They do not play a central role. The best thing about ‘Dabba Cartel’ is that it is a world that is being seen from this perspective how women find themselves in this situation and it is definitely different for men.
The actress, who has won the National Award for Best Actress for her strong role in the film ‘Godamdar’ released in 1999, said that this series produced by Shibani Akhtar shows the world of crime from a different perspective.
In this series aired on ‘Netflix’, Azmi plays the role of a typical Gujarati mother -in -law who later appears as a woman who was associated with the drug trafficking mafia in the past.
Azmi said that it was interesting to create a character whose power lies in his calm firmness.
He said, “I found many layers of this character challenging and I found that he was different from that ‘Godamdar’ which I played many years ago and for which I also received the National Award.”
The series also stars Jyothika and Nimisha Sajyan, Gajraj Rao, Anjali Anand, Sai Tamhankar, Jishu Sengupta, Lilate Dubey and Sunil Grover.
Asked if he is happy with the strong roles to women in films based on fictional stories, he said that it should have been long ago.
