New Delhi. Shillong’s famous singer Amit Paul’s birthday is on 28th December. Amit, the runner-up of ‘Indian Idol’ season 3, has won millions of hearts with his excellent voice. Despite being just two steps away from becoming the winner, he did not give up and achieved success as a playback singer in Bollywood. Amit Paul was born on 28 December 1982 in Shillong. His parents are Deepak Paul and Jaya Paul. The family has a decades-old business, but Amit was determined to make a career in singing.
Since childhood, he dreamed of becoming a playback singer, but never took professional training for it. After completing his studies from St. Peter’s School in Shillong, his inclination towards music grew day by day. His voice improved completely through self-practice. The result of his special love for music was that in the year 2007, Amit took part in the third season of ‘Indian Idol’.

After being eliminated in the show, he also made a comeback through wild card entry. He became one of the most popular contestants in the show because of his amazing voice. His singing especially impressed the judges as well as the audience. However, in the finale, he remained two steps away from winning the cup and became the runner-up after losing to Prashant Tamang, but this proved to be the beginning of his career.
Amit Paul also did many shows in foreign countries
After ‘Indian Idol’, Amit appeared on TV in the show ‘Ek Se Badkar Ek’, where his pairing with Rajshree Thakur was liked. He also participated in ‘K for Kishore’, but left the show due to minor illness. Amit did many concerts all over the world. He performed in many countries including America, Britain, Canada, South Africa, Singapore, Thailand, Dubai, Nepal and Bangladesh.
Made debut with Zoya Akhtar’s film
Amit’s debut in playback singing was with the 2009 film ‘Luck by Chance’. He created a stir by singing the romantic song ‘Pyaar Ki Dastaan’. Duet with Mahalakshmi Iyer and with lyrics written by Javed Akhtar, her voice was successful in leaving a special impression on the hearts of the listeners. The song became a chartbuster and was highly praised by critics. After this, apart from Hindi, he also sang songs in Bengali and Nepali films.
‘Luck by Chance’ is a film directed by Zoya Akhtar, starring Farhan Akhtar and Konkona Sen Sharma in lead roles. The film also stars Hrithik Roshan, Juhi Chawla, Rishi Kapoor, Sanjay Kapoor, Dimple Kapadia, Isha Sharwani and Shahrukh Khan (cameo). The story, acting and music of the film were highly appreciated.
Along with music, Amit also runs his family business and is very popular in the North-East. He is active in social work. They work for children’s education, help for the disabled and women empowerment. He helped the underprivileged by doing charity shows in the country and abroad.
