Wells Studio is running as an amusement park under the ‘Green Category’.New Delhi. Big action has taken place on the sets of the popular reality show Bigg Boss Kannada. The local administration has sealed it on charges of violating environmental rules. The gate of this set located in Bidadi, Ramanagara district of Karnataka has been locked. Along with this, the contestants of the show have been thrown out of the set.
This action has been taken following strict instructions from the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB), which had issued a closure notice to Wells Studio Entertainment, the company running the set. The entire set of Bigg Boss Kannada was built in this studio premises.
Violation of environmental rules
It was clearly written in the notice that Wells Studio is being run as an amusement park under the ‘Green Category’. But he does not have any valid permission from KSPCB. The board ordered that the studio’s operations be shut down immediately and a response be filed over environmental violations. According to KSPCB, Wells Studio Entertainment Private Limited falls under the green category as an amusement park, but it was operating without valid permission. The notice said that the studio was unauthorized disposing of waste and sewage treatment plant (STP) water, causing pollution in the Bidadi area.
The board found many serious flaws during the inspection.
– No systematic disposal of solid waste like plastic cups, paper plates and other disposable materials was being done.
– The sewage treatment plant (STP) was not being operated properly nor was there any record of waste water management.
– Two diesel generator sets (625 kVA and 500 kVA capacity) were found violating environmental standards.
‘No one above the law’
Karnataka Forest, Environment and Ecology Minister Ishwar Khandre confirmed that a notice was issued to the studio in March 2024 itself, but it was ignored. He said, ‘We received information that the studio has not obtained the necessary licenses under the Water Act and Air Act.’ The minister also pointed out that the studio was running as an ‘amusement park’ without permission, which is in violation of the orders of the Supreme Court and the National Green Tribunal (NGT). Ishwar Khandre said in a strict tone, ‘No one is above the law. We are only performing our duty and everyone has to respect the law of this country. However, he also said that the studio can appeal in the court, but the legal action will continue.
Crisis on the future of the show
This is the twelfth season of Bigg Boss Kannada, produced by Banijay Entertainment acquired by Endemol Shine India. After this action the possibility of suspension of this season of the show has increased.
