The Kerala government on Monday announced the 55th State Film Awards for 2024, naming Mammootty as the best actor and Shamla Hamza as the best actress. Chidambaram’s Manjumal Boys won major awards including Best Film. It is one of the highest grossing Malayalam films.
The awards were announced by Cultural Affairs Minister Saji Cherian in the presence of a seven-member jury headed by actor Prakash Raj. Mammootty won the Best Actor award for his role of Kodumon Potti in Brahmayugam. Shamla Hamza, who is relatively new to the film industry, won the Best Actress title for her performance in Feminichi Fatima. Chidambaram also won Best Director and Best Screenplay (Original) for Manjumal Boys. Premalu starring Naslane and Mamitha Baiju received the Best Popular Film award. It was directed by Girish AD.

The panel examined 128 films participating in the competition and selected 38 films for the final round, from which the winners were selected.
Notable among the winners announced on Monday was actress Shamla Hamza, who won the best actress award for her performance in director Fasil Muhammad’s film “Feminichi Fatima”. The film was also voted the second best film after “Manjummel Boys” and its director Faasil Muhammad received the Best Debut Director award.

“Manjummel Boys” won 10 awards including Best Director. Chidambaram, director of survival thriller “Manjummel Boys”, not only won the Best Director award but also the Best Original Screenplay award. Soubin Shahir, who played an important role in the film, won the Best Character Actor (Male) award for “Bramyugam” along with Siddharth Bharathan. “Manjummel Boys” also won awards for Best Sound Mixing and Sound Design. Its art director Ajayan Chalisri won the Best Art Direction award, while cinematographer Shayju Khalid won the Best Cinematography award.
