Jersey Movie Review: Shahid Kapoor will complete 20 years of working as a lead hero on the big screen next year. After the film ‘Kabir Singh’, he has now set out to create a new direction in acting. Shahid Kapoor is choosing powerful stories in this journey. We have prepared ourselves according to the characters and are choosing such directors who have 100 percent faith in these stories. After Sandeep Reddy Vanga, he has now handed himself over to Gautham Tinnanuri. Shahid’s film ‘Jersey’ has been released in theaters today.
This film of Shahid Kapoor is the Hindi remake of director Gautam Tinnanuri’s 2019 Nani starrer National Award film of the same name. Shahid is a capable actor, he has beautifully portrayed the body language of a cricketer and the disappointment of a frustrated and defeated father in this film.
Such is the story of the film
The film is about a cricketer, Arjun Talwar, who suddenly quits playing at the peak of his career. One is of a husband, who has become worthless in the eyes of his wife. One is about a father, who risks his life to earn respect in the eyes of his son. Arjun Talwar used to be the most successful player of his time, but 10 years ago he said goodbye to cricket and started living a simple life with his love Vidya and son. A storm comes in his life when he is suspended from his job. Now he is just a loser all the way. Desperate for money. The wife takes the entire responsibility of the house.
Meanwhile, his son Kittu insists on gifting Arjun an Indian team jersey worth Rs 500 on his birthday. Arjun makes every effort to raise Rs 500 to fulfill this wish of his innocent son. From sweating in the cricket ground to asking for loan and stealing, but remains unsuccessful. From here the purpose of Arjun’s life changes. Like the rest of the world, he does not want to become a failure in the eyes of his son, hence at the age of 36, when people think of retirement, he comes to the crease again.
The story of the film is blurry at some places
All the actors of the film ‘Jersey’ have played their roles well. There is also a glimpse of ‘Kabir Singh’ in Shahid’s bearded Punjabi character. Pankaj Kapur is in full form as a coach. His chemistry with Shahid is worth watching. Her chemistry with her son Ronit also looks good. Mrinal Thakur has given good performance in his character. The weakness of the film is its length and slow start. The first half of the film progresses slowly, which sometimes leads to boredom. This film of about 3 hours should have been edited on the editing table. Secondly, there is no such excitement in the second half of cricket matches. You only see Arjun’s fours and sixes. It does not seem natural for a cricketer who returned to the field after 10 years to hit such fours and sixes with the very first shot. However, these match scenes have been beautifully shot.
