Sydney Sweeney was spotted climbing the iconic Hollywood Sign late at night, wearing black cargo pants, a hoodie and a cap. After reaching the top of the structure, they hung a bra rope over the famous letters decorating the California landmark while the stunt was being filmed. This video was shared by TMZ.
Actress Sydney Sweeney may face vandalism and trespassing charges after climbing over the Hollywood Sign and hanging a bra on it to promote her upcoming lingerie brand.
According to TMZ, Sweeney and his team obtained a permit from FilmLA to shoot near the Hollywood Sign. But the permit did not allow anyone to climb or touch the landmark.
The Hollywood Sign is a protected landmark and contact without permission may result in charges of minor offenses including trespassing or vandalism. TMZ reported that Sweeney could face such charges, although no charges have been filed yet.
Police say no laws were broken
The Los Angeles Police Department told Fox News Digital that there is no ongoing investigation. “No crime has been committed,” a representative for the department told the outlet.
The stunt was tied to the launch of Sweeney’s lingerie line, a project she has been developing for over a year. The brand has received backing from high-profile investors including Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez.
Sweeney has faced criticism in the past for his advertising choices. Recently he faced criticism online for a jeans advertisement, which some viewers described as insensitive and accused him of using racist language. This debate intensified after Donald Trump praised the advertisement on Truth Social.
In a later interview with GQ, Sweeney said that the reaction surprised him but did not shake him. Sweeney said “I did a jeans commercial. I mean, the reaction was definitely a surprise, but I love jeans. I just wear jeans. I literally live in jeans and T-shirts every day of my life. I knew ultimately what that ad was for, and that was great jeans; it didn’t affect me in any way.
