There is big news for Sunny Deol fans! Aamir Khan Productions has announced the official release date of its ambitious period drama film ‘Lahore 1947’. The film will be released in theaters on August 13, 2026, which is going to be a big bang of the Independence Day week. The trio of Aamir Khan (Producer), Rajkumar Santoshi (Director) and Sunny Deol (Actor) are working together for the first time with this film. Aamir Khan says, “This is one of Dharamji’s favorite scripts, and I’m very happy that he got to see this film.” Starring Sunny Deol, Shabana Azmi, Preity Zinta and Karan Deol, with music by AR Rahman and lyrics written by Javed Akhtar, ‘Lahore 1947’ is Sunny Deol’s next project after the ongoing success of his blockbuster films.
Dispute between Aamir and Santoshi over ‘title’?
With the announcement of the release of the film, a new controversy has arisen. According to reports, producer Aamir Khan is considering removing the word ‘Lahore’ from the title of the film. The reason behind this is said to be the current political environment and sensitivity regarding keeping the name of a Pakistani city in the title of the film.
However, director Rajkumar Santoshi is strongly against this change. He said in an interview: “Changing the title would be a kind of appeasement, which I am not in favor of. I have waited 20 years for this film. This is my dream project and Sunny Deol is a perfect fit for this role.”
Sunny Deol’s ‘Golden Period’
After blockbuster films like ‘Gadar 2’ and ‘Jatt’, Sunny Deol is very excited about ‘Lahore 1947’. Aamir Khan also told that this was one of his father Dharmendra’s (Dharamji) favorite scripts and he is happy that he is bringing it on screen.
The shooting of the film has been completed in October 2025 and now the post-production work is in the final stages. Aamir Khan had earlier promised to release it after his film ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’, and now the date has finally been revealed.
