Rahman’s attendance at the premiere comes at a time when he is facing recent controversy related to his comments about communal discrimination in Bollywood. The composer has said that due to changes in the industry he is getting less opportunities. A.R. Rahman said in an interview with BBC Asian Network, “Maybe I never knew about it, maybe God kept it hidden, but I didn’t feel any of that. In the last eight years, maybe, because the power has shifted and now the power is with people who are not creative.”
Rahman further said, “It could also be a communal thing, but it is not in front of me. It comes to me like a whisper that they booked you but the music company went ahead and hired their five composers. I say fine, I will get more time to chill with my family. I am not looking for work. I don’t want to go looking for work. I want the work to come to me; my honesty will get the work. I can do whatever. I deserve it, I get it.”
Many celebrities have given their opinion on this controversy and shared their views.
