Former actress Mamta Kulkarni had created controversy by commenting about Dawood Ibrahim during an event in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh. Hours after the uproar, he clarified his remarks.Now, the former actress has issued a clarification and said that her statement was misunderstood.

Controversy has started over Mamta Kulkarni’s ‘Dawood Ibrahim’ statement.
As India TV reported, Mamata said at the press meetI have nothing to do with Dawood Ibrahim. He also denied meeting Dawood or being associated with him. He said that when you take the name of Dawood – with which my name is associated – he never carried out any bomb blast in Bombay. In 2015, Mamta Kulkarni’s name came up in a major international drug trafficking case. Thane Police claimed that the actress was one of the accused in an international drug racket worth Rs 2000 crore and supplying ephedrine to the gangster for illegal manufacturing of methamphetamine which was intended for smuggling. It was described at the time as “India’s largest ever drug seizure”.
It was reported that she along with her partner Vicky Goswami and other co-accused were involved in an international drug gang meeting in Kenya in January 2016. However, later, the Bombay High Court quashed the FIR against Mamata and gave her a clean chit.
Kulkarni’s comments sparked massive outrage online. Kulkarni, one user said, “She wears the robe of religion and pretends to be spiritual, her love for her lovers has not diminished… Look at Mamata’s love for Dawood, who has been branded a terrorist by the entire world.”
Following a sharp reaction, Kulkarni clarified her comment on Instagram, in which she reiterated that she has neither met nor spoken to Dawood Ibrahim. Referring to Vicky Goswami, Kulkarni said that she had been associated with him for some time, but he was not involved in any anti-national activities.He accused the press of provoking his comments and urged people to listen to his interview peacefully once again, and also appealed to the saints to use their discretion.
Mamta appeared in several commercially successful Hindi films such as “Waqt Hamara Hai”, “Krantiveer”, “Karan Arjun”, “Sabse Bada Khiladi”, “Andolan” and “Baazi”. His last Bollywood film was released in 2002. She later left Bollywood and became a spiritual leader in the Kinnar Akhara to serve Sanatan Dharma.
