There was a stir in the politics and film industry of Tamil Nadu when the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) again issued summons to actor and ‘Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam’ (TVK) chief Vijay. CBI has ordered him to appear at its headquarters in Delhi on March 15, 2026. This case is related to the horrific stampede that took place in Karur in September last year, which shook the entire state.

The agency had questioned Vijay twice in January and summoned the actor again on March 9, but he had requested to defer it by 15 days. Officials said actor Vijay had also requested that the questioning be conducted at an office in Chennai or Tamil Nadu, citing political commitments due to the upcoming assembly elections.

He said that CBI has now asked Vijay to appear at the agency headquarters in Delhi on March 15. The central probe agency has also asked DMK MLA from Karur Senthil Balaji to appear for questioning on March 17. Former state minister Balaji, in a post on ‘X’, said that he wants to appear before the CBI on March 17 and present his stand regarding the Karur stampede tragedy.

The CBI took over the case from the SIT following the Supreme Court order, and is collecting evidence in the case related to the stampede that took place during Vijay’s rally in Karur, Tamil Nadu on September 27, 2025. 41 people died and more than 60 were injured in this stampede.
