In the year 2010, the makers had signed Akshay Kumar as a judge for the first season of ‘MasterChef India’. After this, when the country’s biggest chef Sanjeev Kapoor was offered this show, he demanded more fees from the makers than Akshay Kumar. Sanjeev Kapoor believed that this was his field and he should get more fees, even if it was just Re 1 more. As soon as they heard this demand, the makers rejected him.

New Delhi. Bollywood’s ‘Khiladi’ Akshay Kumar is one of the most expensive and hugely paid stars of the industry. From films to shows, the budget of his projects runs into crores. In such a situation, it is a big thing in itself for another artist to demand more money than him. Usually, Akshay Kumar is the highest paid actor of his films, but 16 years ago, TV’s first celebrity chef Sanjeev Kapoor had demanded more fees from Akshay Kumar due to which he had to lose the offer of the show.
Sanjeev Kapoor has told this story many times. Recently, while talking to Culinary Culture, he repeated the incident where he was replaced from the show for demanding more fees from Akshay Kumar. He says that this is the year 2016 when Master Chef India was starting in India. Akshay Kumar was there in the first season and when the makers approached Sanjeev Kapoor, he demanded more fees from Khiladi Kumar.
Sanjeev Kapoor had demanded more fees from Akshay
Sanjeev Kapoor says that this is his field and hence he believed that he should get more fees than Akshay Kumar. The celebrity chef had demanded only Rs 1 more fee from Khiladi Kumar, which was rejected by the makers. Sanjeev Kapoor was not a part of the show in the first season. He says that he knew that only he could give it its real identity.
This is how the game changed after 3 years
According to him, despite the demand not being fulfilled in the first season, the makers repeatedly requested him to give a guest appearance. He was repeatedly approached for guest appearances, but he refused. Ultimately, when the show failed to gain popularity in India, the makers again approached Sanjeev Kapoor for the third season.
He says that he had refused the second time also. He had already said that the makers would not be able to accept his demands and he wanted to work on his own terms. However, this time considering their needs, the makers placed their demands on Sanjeev Kapoor and allowed him to work on their terms.
