Another scary face of mental harassment and ‘cyber bullying’ on social media has come to light. Rajasthan’s famous social media influencer and content creator Anita Bishnoi on Wednesday allegedly tried to commit suicide by consuming some poisonous substance. When his condition deteriorated, he was immediately admitted to Mathuradas Mathur (MDM) Hospital in Jodhpur, where at present his condition is said to be stable. Anita’s family alleges that she was going through severe mental stress due to continuous trolling, lewd comments and personal harassment on social media for the last several weeks.
‘Content creator’ Anita Bishnoi, known for making videos on Rajasthan’s culture and traditions as well as social awareness issues, was admitted to Mathuradas Mathur (MDM) Hospital after her health deteriorated at her residence in Banar police station area. According to family members, Bishnoi had allegedly consumed some poisonous substance at home. He was immediately taken to the hospital. The incident occurred hours after Bishnoi shared an emotional message on social media, causing concern among his social media followers and relatives.
In his post, Bishnoi hinted that he might never be seen again. Bishnoi has around 13 lakh followers on Facebook and more than 6.45 lakh followers on Instagram. Her husband Dinaram alleged that Bishnoi had been facing constant trolling and personal attacks on social media for weeks. According to her husband, the criticism increased after she posted a video expressing her views on women’s clothing. There were also strong reactions from some social media users and fellow influencers.
Dinaram alleged that some people were deliberately targeting Bishnoi through social media platforms and messaging apps, due to which she was under a lot of stress. The family also alleged that attempts were being made to tarnish their reputation through derogatory comments on social media. The condition of Bishnoi admitted in the hospital is said to be stable. Police have started investigating the incident. The case has not been registered yet.
