Birth and family
Paresh Rawal was born on 30 May 1955 in a Gujarati family in Mumbai. His childhood was spent in Parle East area of Mumbai. Where there used to be an open theater ground nearby. It was from here that Paresh Rawal’s interest in acting arose. He used to be very mischievous in his childhood. But Paresh Rawal’s biggest passion was theatre. At the age of just 9, he used to enter the theater to watch plays without a ticket. Many times Paresh Rawal was caught and thrown out.
When Paresh Rawal was repeatedly caught trying to enter the theatre, the theater people understood his passion and allowed him to watch the play. Gradually Paresh Rawal started getting small roles also. This became the basis of Paresh Rawal’s career. However, initially he started working in Bank of Baroda. But he did not feel like going there. He quit his job shortly after and plunged headlong into acting.
film career
He started his film career in the year 1984 with the film ‘Holi’. Then in the year 1985, he got many small roles in many films like ‘Arjun’. But the actor got his real recognition from the 1986 film ‘Naam’. Then in the 80s and 90s, he worked continuously and played the role of villain in more than 100 films. Paresh Rawal’s acting in films like ‘Mohra’, ‘Krantiveer’, ‘Ram Lakhan’, and ‘Damini’ was appreciated.
Apart from the villain, the actor played many serious and comic roles. The film ‘Hera Pheri’ released in the year 2000 gave a new height to the actor’s career. Paresh Rawal’s character ‘Baburao Ganpat Apte’ became very popular in this film and even today he is considered a memorable face of Indian comedy cinema.
After this, Paresh Rawal acted brilliantly in films like ‘Garam Masala’, ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa’, ‘Hungama’, ‘Welcome’, ‘Golmaal’ series and ‘Oh My God’. Paresh Rawal proved that he can fit into every role. The actor was awarded the National Film Award twice. Once awarded the Filmfare Award and Padma Shri by the Government of India in the year 2014.
