In 1968, India saw a fairy tale romance between Bollywood’s famous actress Sharmila Tagore and the country’s best cricket captain Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi. Their meeting was only more than marriage, it was the confluence of two of India’s biggest passion, cinema and cricket. While the celebration of ‘Tiger’ Pataudi’s legacy has been celebrated for a long time, the recent reports show that the trophy named after him will be retired and this is disappointed with their fans.

India-England Test Series- Known as Pataudi Trophy
The Indo-England Test series, known as the Pataudi Trophy, was launched in 1932 to commemorate the first Test match between the two countries. Although the final decision is yet to be announced, the report states that ECB has informed Saif Ali Khan about the plan to retire the trophy. Reacting to this, Tagore told Hindustan Times, “I have not spoken to him, but ECB has sent a letter to Saif that has said that he is retiring the trophy. If BCCI wants to remember Tiger’s legacy or wants to ignore him, it is to decide them.” The official statement is awaited by the BCCI about the retirement of the Pataudi Trophy.

A year full of challenges for the Pataudi family
This news came after a series of difficult events for the Pataudi family. Earlier this year, Saif Ali Khan fell victim to a violent domestic invasion, protecting his family from bravery and found several knife wounds. To increase their sufferings, the Madhya Pradesh High Court directed him to contact the Appellate Authority by the Central Government after declaring the ancestral property of the family, which is priced at Rs 15,000 crore, as a ‘enemy property’. The ‘Chupke Chupke’ actress, who was married to Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi until her death in 2011, has always been a strong supporter to preserve the cricket heritage of her late husband. The idea of retiring the Pataudi Trophy increases their concerns. So far, the BCCI has not issued any official statement on the matter.
