Samajwadi Party member Jaya Bachchan in the Rajya Sabha requested the government to issue a memorial ticket on Thursday after completing 50 years of production of the film ‘Wall’ and ‘Sholay’. Raising this issue in the upper house during the Zero Hour, Jaya Bachchan said, “Indian cinema has reached an important stage and I want our cinematic heritage to be respected.” He said that this year the birth centenary of well-known showman Raj Kapoor is being celebrated. He said that Raj Kapoor’s contribution to cinema is invaluable and incomparable.

Actress and MP Jaya said that this year, 50 years of production of two classical films ‘Wall’ and ‘Sholay’ are also being completed. He said that the struggle of the common man was shown in these films, popular among the audience even today. He said that ‘Sholay’ was released in 1975 and the film continued for five years in many theaters. Jaya Bachchan also acted in ‘Sholay’.

Jaya, who is speaking in the upper house, requested the government to issue a memorial postage stamp on the occasion of completion of 50 years of production of the film ‘Wall’ with ‘Sholay’. Both films are counted among Jaya Bachchan’s husband and popular actor Amitabh Bachchan’s biggest hit films. He said that this step will tell them about the conservation of these cinematic heritage along with creating cultural relations with our next generation.

He said that cinema plays an important role in our cultural identity along with keeping social importance. Jaya said that the film Heritage Foundation offered special screening of the wall and IIFA was specially remembered ‘Sholay’ in 2025 which shows the importance of these films in the cinema world.
