Dipika Chikhlia Birthday: Ramanand Sagar’s ‘Ramayana’ is still present in the hearts of the audience. Actors Arun Govil and Deepika Chikhaliya are still known as Lord Ram and Mother Sita. The impact of this religious serial was such that Rajiv Gandhi himself asked for its VCR cassette from Deepika Chikhlia.
This character changed the entire life of Deepika Chikhlia, but it was not easy to get the role of Mother Sita.
Deepika, born on 29 April 1965 in Mumbai, did not know that the character of Mother Sita would change her entire life. Even in her early career, the actress had decided that she wanted to become a television actress, but at that time television was called an idiot box and the actors acting on TV were underestimated in comparison to the actresses working in films. This was the reason why Deepika’s family was a little unhappy with her decision to work on television.
Deepika started her career in 1980 with the TV series “Rishte-Nate” and then she appeared in Ramanand Sagar’s serials Dada-Dadi Ki Kahani and Vikram Betal.

How was Deepika Chikhalia selected in the role of Sita?
- Deepika never thought that she would be called to audition for the role of Mother Sita, but giving the screen test was also not easy.
- On the first day, Deepika auditioned for the role of Mother Sita among 40 girls in the screen test, then in the second audition the number of girls reduced to half and in the third audition only a few girls were left, in which Deepika was also included, but after a long wait of a few weeks, she was signed for the serial.
In Ramanand Sagar’s ‘Ramayana’, the pair of Lord Ram and Mother Sita was presented with love and devotion, but in real life, there was very little interaction between Deepika Chikhlia, Arun Govil and Sunil Lahiri on the sets. Deepika herself had revealed that Arun Govil and Sunil Lahiri were very good friends and she kept herself very reserved on the sets and used to talk more to Ramanand Sagar’s wife and his son’s daughter-in-law. We used to talk a little, that too with Arvind Trivedi, who played the role of Ravana. Although there was no deep friendship with him either.
