Manoj Bajpayee was born on April 23, 1969 in Belwa, Bihar. His father was a farmer. In such a situation, the financial condition of the family was not very good. Manoj’s father wanted his son to become a doctor. The reason behind his desire was that he himself wanted to become a doctor. This was the reason why Manoj was sent to hostel at the age of 7, but fate had something else in store.

Manoj Bajpayee wanted to become an actor since childhood
Born in a small village in Bihar, Manoj’s first dream was to become an actor. For this he had to roll a lot of papads from the very beginning. No one in the family was related to the film industry. After passing 12th, Manoj went to Delhi, where he took admission in Delhi University for graduation and started doing street theater on the side. After completing his graduation, when he gave the NSD exam for the first time, he failed. In Raj Shamani’s podcast, Manoj told that, ‘I became depressed after failing in NSD. I used to have suicidal thoughts. Seeing my condition, my friends were afraid that I might commit suicide. That’s why one of my friends was always present with me.

Gave NSD exam 3 times
Manoj gave NSD exam again and he failed again. After this he joined Barry John’s acting school, where he taught acting to children for Rs 1,500. Manoj did not give up and once again gave the NSD exam, but did not pass as a student. According to India Today, the NSD professor had told Manoj, ‘We cannot take you as a student, but if you wish, you can work here as a teacher.’

How did you get your first film ‘Bandit Queen’?
You will be surprised to know that Manoj’s first film came by luck. Actually, one day he was rehearsing, when Tigmanshu Dhulia approached him and told that Shekhar Kapur wanted to meet him. Manoj was shocked to hear this. Shekhar Kapur wanted to meet Manoj in connection with ‘Bandit Queen’. After the meeting, he was offered the role of Vikram Mallah in the film, but after some time this role went to Nirmal Pandey. Only a few days had passed since this happened. Then Manoj got a call from Tigmanshu and said, ‘You come to Delhi quickly. Naseer Sahab has refused to play the role of Mansingh. Shekhar Kapur wants to cast you in this role in his place. In this way he became a part of the film ‘Bandit Queen’.

Manoj Bajpayee was offered Ram Gopal Varma’s film ‘Satya’ in 1988, in which he played the role of Bhiku Mhatre. This film changed Manoj’s fortunes. He has become a superstar overnight.
