Bollywood’s ‘Prince’ Kartik Aryan has now joined the list of select stars who have legal protection over the use of their name, face and voice. After Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Salman Khan and Karan Johar, the Bombay High Court on Wednesday ordered protection of Kartik Aryan’s ‘personality rights’. The court clarified that using Karthik’s photographs and images commercially without permission will now be considered a crime.
According to a report by ‘Bar & Bench’, Justice Sharmila Deshmukh said that she will pass the order in favor of Kartik Aryan. For those who do not know about this, let us tell them that this step was taken when Kartik Aryan’s lawyer, senior advocate Birendra Saraf drew the attention of the court towards such content. He said some of the content was scandalous, and some was being used to make money by selling merchandise.

Pointing to several alleged misuses of Kartik Aryan’s personality rights, his counsel, senior advocate Birendra Saraf, said, “I want the same order to be passed which your Lordship (Judge Sahiba) had earlier contemplated—that when I tell them about some content, they should remove it. I do not want them to do any investigation on their own (suo motu). Whatever content I know about I will keep telling him, he is a well-known actor. His pictures are also being used to sell merchandise. Some of this content is very bad, and some of it is very derogatory.

In his petition, Kartik Aryan has also sought direction to online platforms and government authorities to remove content that violates his personality rights, and also to reveal the identity of the anonymous criminals who are doing so.

Apart from Kartik Aryan, many other Bollywood stars have also approached the court to protect their personality and publicity rights. These include Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Karan Johar, Sunil Shetty and Akshay Kumar. The court has also passed orders on petitions filed by many of these stars.

Talking about films, Kartik Aryan was last seen in the romantic drama film ‘Tu Meri Main Tera’ with Ananya Panday. He will be next seen in Mrigdeep Lamba’s creature drama ‘Nagzilla’, which is backed by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions.
