A special court in Mumbai on Wednesday gave a major verdict in the case of shooting at the Juhu residence of famous Bollywood filmmaker Rohit Shetty. The court has extended the police custody of main shooter Deepak Sharma and six other accused till March 4. The police had sought additional time for a comprehensive investigation into the case and recovery of weapons.Police sought 10 more days’ custody of the accused saying that some recoveries related to weapons were still pending. He said that further investigation is also necessary regarding reconnaissance by the accused.

It was also brought to the notice of the court that additional sections of the Arms Act have been added in the case. The accused, including shooter Deepak Sharma, were arrested from Haryana and Uttar Pradesh on February 14. After their previous custody period of the accused ended, they were produced before Special Judge Satyanarayan Navander for cases under the Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA) on Wednesday. Advocate Dilip Shukla, appearing for all the accused, opposed the police request to extend the custody by ten days.

He requested that in the interest of justice the police could be given custody for less days. Special Judge Navander, after hearing the arguments of both the parties, said that considering the scope of the investigation, it is necessary to give adequate time to the police. At least five bullets were fired on the first floor of Shetty’s nine-storey building in Juhu on February 1. A bullet hit the glass of the gym located inside the building. Lawrence Bishnoi gang member Shubham Lonkar has taken responsibility for the incident through a social media post. Lonkar is a wanted accused in the murder case of NCP leader Baba Siddiqui and firing at the residence of Bollywood actor Salman Khan in Bandra.
