The troubles of actor Rajpal Yadav, who has won crores of hearts with his comedy, are not showing signs of diminishing. The Delhi High Court on Thursday postponed the hearing on his bail plea and refused to grant him any relief. Now the actor will have to remain in Tihar jail at least till 16 February (Monday). The court also issued a notice to Murali Projects Company, the same company which had given a loan of Rs 5 crore to Yadav in 2010 for his first directorial film ‘Aata Pata Lapata’. The case pertains to approximately Rs 9 crore which Yadav allegedly failed to repay. During the hearing, Yadav’s lawyers sought time from the court, saying they needed instructions from it regarding the payment. The actor also told the court that Yadav has to attend his niece’s wedding in Shahjahanpur later this month. He is in judicial custody in Tihar Jail since February 5.

Court’s strict comment: “Yadav is in jail because of himself”
During the hearing, the bench of Justice Swarnakanta Sharma made very strict remarks on the conduct of Rajpal Yadav. The court made it clear that the actor is responsible for his own punishment.
Anti-promise: The court said that Rajpal Yadav had assured the court on at least two dozen (24 times) occasions that he would repay the dues, but he never fulfilled his promise.
Own conduct: Justice Sharma said, “You are in jail not because of a court order, but because of your conduct. When you have confessed to the crime and have repeatedly pleaded guilty, the question of suspending the sentence does not arise.”

Court pulled up Rajpal Yadav
During the proceedings, the Delhi High Court strongly reprimanded the actor. Justice Swarnkant Sharma said that Yadav was jailed not because of the court order, but because of his own behaviour. The court said that Yadav has accepted his liability many times. The judge said, “When you have already confessed to the crime, the question of suspending the sentence does not arise.”
Justice Sharma further said that Yadav had admitted in the court on several occasions that he had taken the money and would repay it. He was sentenced to six months in jail for not returning the borrowed amount of about Rs 9 crore even after the stipulated time.
The court said that he is in jail because he could not fulfill his promise. The court said that on at least two dozen occasions, Yadav had assured the court that he would pay the dues, but he did not fulfill the promise.
During the hearing, the court told that earlier Yadav and his lawyer had assured the complainant of payment. The bench said that now, the lawyer has said that the amount will be deposited in the court. Meanwhile, after the matter reached the court, many people associated with Bollywood and politics have announced financial assistance to help raise money for the payment.
