Pratyusha Banerjee made an identity from house to house by playing the role of Anandi in the popular show ‘Balika Vadhu’. However, on 1 April 2016, he allegedly committed suicide. After his death, his parents lodged a complaint against Rahul Singh. He was booked under Section 306 (provoking suicide), 504 (deliberate insult), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 323 (voluntary injury) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). In 2023, a sessions court in Mumbai dismissed Rahul Raj Singh’s discharge petition. In the petition, he claimed that he was falsely implicated due to “personal vengeance”. However, the court stated that it was initially clear that Pratyusha went into depression due to physical, emotional and financial oppression and exploitation by Rahul.
